Awards


Important notice: Applications for the following first four awards should be sent to the SICOT Head Office by e-mail, fax, or post. Candidates may not apply for more than one award for the Congress. Free congress registration was granted to award winners who must have attended the Closing Ceremony on Friday, 9 September 2011 to receive their prize. Abdel Hay Mashhour/SICOT Award

Funded by Prof Abdel Hay Mashhour (Tanta University, Egypt)

Three prizes of USD 1,000 each are awarded at the Closing Ceremony of Triennial World Congresses. One prize is given to a trainee of the Faculty of Medicine of Tanta University in Egypt, and two other awardees are chosen from all applications received. The purpose of the award is to help young orthopaedic trainees attend the Congress.

Prerequisites: candidates must be trainees under 40.

Documents to submit: application letter, CV, copy of birth certificate or passport, and letter from supervisor. 

Deadline: 1 April 2011 (closed)

Korean SICOT Award

Funded by the SICOT Foundation

Awarded at the Closing Ceremony of each Triennial World Congress to young orthopaedic surgeons. The prize is granted to one surgeon, or shared by two orthopaedic surgeons. The purpose is to help young surgeons attend the Congress.

Prerequisites: candidates must be under 40 and members of SICOT.

Documents to submit: application letter indicating travel costs, CV, copy of birth certificate or passport, and SICOT Membership Application Form (unless already a SICOT member).

Application deadline: 28 February 2011 (closed)

Marcela Uribe Zamudio Awards

Funded by the SICOT Foundation

Two prizes of up to USD 2,000 each are awarded during the Closing Ceremony at each Triennial World Congress to women orthopaedic surgeons under 40 or trainees who have completed original scientific work in orthopaedics or traumatology within the last three years. The purpose of the award is to encourage young researchers and clinicians.

Prerequisites: candidates must be women orthopaedic surgeons under 40 or women trainees who have completed original scientific work in orthopaedics or traumatology within the last three years.

Documents to submit: application letter, CV, copy of birth certificate or passport, and copy of one piece of personal work completed within the last three years.

Application deadline: 7 May 2011 (closed)

SICOT/SIROT Award

Funded by the SICOT Foundation

USD 2,000 are awarded during the Closing Ceremony at each Triennial World Congress to the author(s) of original research work in orthopaedics or traumatology completed within the three years prior to a SICOT Triennial World Congress. The purpose of the award is to help candidates attend the Congress.

Prerequisites: candidates must be under 45 and members of SICOT.

Documents to submit: CV, copy of birth certificate or passport, and copy of one piece of scientific work (full text and illustrations) and SICOT Membership Application Form (unless already a SICOT member).

Application deadline: 31 December 2010 (closed)

German Travel Awards

Funded by the SICOT German section

The German section of SICOT is offering Travel Awards worth EUR 700 to attend the next SICOT Triennial World Congress in Prague. Candidates must be German members of SICOT under 35 years old and must have had an abstract accepted for presentation at the Congress. The deadline for submitting abstracts is 15 January 2011. 

Prerequisites: candidates must reside in Germany and be members of SICOT.

Documents to submit: CV, list of publications, letter of recommendation from the Director of the Hospital, abstract.

Shimomura Research Prize (SIROT Award)

Funded by Prof Yutaka Shimomura of Japan

The Shimomura prize of USD 2,000 for the best original research work, in orthopaedics or traumatology, either clinical or laboratory, completed within three years prior to the SICOT 2011 XXV Triennial World Congress. Preference will be given to laboratory work that may be translated into clinical application. The prize will be awarded at the Closing Ceremony of the SICOT Triennial World Congress.

Prerequisites: Candidates may be of any age and level of experience.

Documents to submit: CV, copy of birth certificate or passport, and a copy of one piece of scientific work in English (full text and illustrations).

No application is required for the following awards. The winners will be selected from all presenters at the Congress. Award winners will be notified during the Congress and must attend the Closing Ceremony to receive their prize. 

   
Henri Bensahel Award

Sponsored by the SICOT Congress

This Award was established in 2009 in memory of Henri Bensahel, Professor of Paediatric Orthopaedics and a Founding Member of IFPOS (International Federation of Paediatric Orthopaedic Societies). A prize of EUR 500 is awarded at the Closing Ceremony to the best oral presentation in Paediatrics.

SICOT/AAOS Annual Meeting Scholarship

Sponsored by SICOT & AAOS

AAOS is providing two free registrations for the 2012 AAOS Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California, to SICOT-selected Scholarship recipients, who will be chosen from a pool of candidates comprised of the winners of the best free paper and poster presentations at the Congress in Prague. Travel expenses will be partially covered by SICOT. 
    

SICOT/CCJR Meeting Award

Sponsored by SICOT & CCJR

The best oral and poster presentations in Arthroplasty will be granted this award, which includes one free registration (worth USD 850) for the Current Concepts in Joint Replacement (CCJR) Winter 2011 Course in Orlando, Florida, United States, and one free registration for the Spring 2012 Course in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Travel expenses will be partially covered by SICOT. 
            

SICOT Oral Presentation Awards

The presenting authors of the ten best oral papers present their papers for a second time during the Best Papers Session at the Annual International Conferences and Triennial World Congresses. The presenting authors of the two best oral presentations selected during this session are each awarded a prize of EUR 500 at the Closing Ceremony. All ten presenting authors receive a diploma of recognition.
